Congratulations!
Former Club members strike gold!
Latest former member to shine is Erick Rowsell, who won the 2008 Junior Men’s Road Race earlier this month.
His older sister, Joanna Rowsell, continued with her winning streak when she won both the Women’s Circuit Race Championships and the U23 Women’s Road Race in June 2008. (It was Joanna who became World Champion in the Women’s Team Pursuit in March 2008.)
Our congratulations to them both for their continued success in cycling!
Once again the Club will again be organising a Go-Ride Cycle Skills Challenge at the Carshalton Environmental Fair on Bank Holiday Monday.
Come and find us on the tennis courts near the Ruskin Road entrance to the Park. British Cycling will be providing bikes and helmets to lend to youngsters who have not brought their own - so there’s no excuse for not having a go! (Members can use the occasion to practise for the Tour of Britain Skills Challenge coming up in September.)
There’s no parking on site, but there will be a free bus service to the fair running on three different routes from various parts of the Borough. Download the routes and timetable from the event website, http://www.ecolocal.org.uk.
The Fair itself runs from 10:30 am till 8:00pm and the theme this year is Sutton - Creating a Sustainable Borough. Full details on the event website. Admission is free for Under 12s;£3 for adults; £1 for Under 16s and Concessions.
Presented as fun, cycle skills have a serious point. Children with good bike-handling skills will be more confident and therefore safer when it comes to riding on the road, and making their contribution to creating a sustainable borough.
