Inter-Area Championships - 7th November - Leicester

Congratulations to all the youth riders for London, especially the winning London 'A' team, and the London 'B' team with our own Chris McGovern, who were 7th. Chris's individual result was 34th, out of over 80 youth riders from all around the country.

Cyclo-cross Age Categories for 2010/2011 Season

(Remember that the changeover date for Cyclo-cross is 1st September every year, so you may be in a different CX Category to your Road/Track Category.)

  • Under 10 - Born 2001 or later
  • Under 12 - Born 1999 or later
  • Youth - Born 1995 to 1998
  • Youth U14 - Born 1998 or 1997
  • Junior - Born 1993 or 1994

Weekly cyclo-cross training

  • Wednesdays, 7:00 - 8:00pm
  • Northey Avenue, 8th September only
  • Sutton Arena Leisure Centre, Middleton Road, Sutton, SM5 1SL, from 15th September
  • Fee payable to Arena: Under 16s: £2.40; Over 16s: £3.75 (Fees lower for Arena members)
  • Lead coach: Gavin Cook
  • New riders contact on Gavin on 07770 897865 before attending.

From Wednesday, 10th November 2010, training will be in the form of simulated races.

This will enable the coaches to assess "missing" aspects of a rider's performance, and also build on the rider's fitness.

Under 14 and Under 16's will ride a separate course of greater length, orbiting the Under 10's and 12's. Laps will be timed and a lap bell will be introduced. Race conditions will be rigid in the sense that riders will train for the race duration for their age category, with no stopping unless they are injured or have a mechanical. If a rider stops for a rest or chat then they will sit out the remaining race duration of their category. (At present riders stop for various reasons. This does not help their fitness and endurance, and the coaches cannot assess performance.) Interval training will also be introduced.

To achieve a smooth running of these sessions, the help of adult volunteers will be much appreciated.
